Replacing Raised Beds

Mounding Soil in Middle of Old Bed

Some of our raised beds have deteriorated and need to be replaced. Long-time Canillas gardener and volunteer, Liz Bickel, offered to pay a carpenter to replace the three most-deteriorated beds. We had thought we’d have to dig out all the soil, but Doug McGrath, of Leb Parks and Rec, suggested mounding the soil in the middle, removing the rotted boards, and putting the new beds in place. Such a labor-saving idea! Today’s volunteer crew were able to mound the soil and take away the rotten boards, but are looking for a younger, stronger team to put the new beds in place – they are heavy!  Liz, thanks for these gifts to the garden!
